Coverage availability and performance aspects for 5G-NR 

Develop a summary of potential metrics that can be used for measuring 5G coverage (availability of 5G services) and user experience (performance) considering 5G-NR using AAS and non-AAS:

1) Describe various aspects of 5G-NR in the different frequency ranges designated for MFCN, including beamforming of control and data channels to highlight differences with earlier generations of mobile technologies also including 5G-NR within MFCN network using DSS (dynamic spectrum sharing)

2) Describe practical options for defining coverage requirements by collecting data both via network management tool and in the field considering available measurement solutions and identifying the pros and cons of the different options.

ECC Report 231 summarises various methods used by administrations to determine coverage obligations in force and how they are controlled/assessed. The report highlights the need to develop practical field measurement methods for LTE.

Meanwhile, 5G-NR implementing AAS have added more flexibility to the air interface along with beamforming. These aspects need to be taken into account when considering conventional methods to set coverage requirements or reporting on 5G coverage and performance for 5G-NR,especially in the context of AAS systems in the different frequency ranges designated to MFCN.
