Subject Use of SRD applications in cars in the band 5725-5875 MHz

Related WI SRD/MG_40
Scope To carry out investigations concerning the use of SRD applications in the band 5725-5875 MHz in cars equipped with 5.8 GHz road toll equipment, RLAN use based on the 5.8 GHz SRD regulation (max. 25 mW) as well as co-channel ITS communications (5855-5875 MHz) - all applications operating under the existing SRD regulations.

The aim of these investigations is not to change the existing regulations, but to investigate potential problems when having all these applications implemented in the same car within close distance.

Public Consultation
Permanent Work Item False
Comments The car industry (Car-2-Car consortia) has confirmed that RLAN use in cars will be implemented as of 2017 based on the existing SRD regulations for the 5725-5875 MHz (ISM) band.

WGFM#85 also sent a liaison statement to ETSI and ASECAP to request investigating the in- and out-of-band interference properties of road toll 5.8 GHz technology and also investigate possible solutions to improve the performance of products and/or related ETSI standards.

Hence, in this context, this request for investigations could also result in relevant information for the road toll industry when improving DSRC systems.
Noting the interest from the car industry to use 25 mW RLAN in cars, these investigations may also help this industry when designing the installation of equipment in the car.

Thesharing scenarios for usage in cars include:

-               RLAN use with max 25 mW under the SRD regulation (ERC/REC 70-03 Annex 1, band 5725-5875 MHz) and road toll equipment (ERC/REC 70-03 Annex 5, band 5795-5815 MHz) as victim;

-               Co-channel ITS use (5855-5875 MHz, as per ECC/REC/(08)01) as victim and RLAN use with max 25 mW under the SRD regulation;

-               any other 25 mW SRD use (with various bandwidths) with ITS (5855-5875 MHz) as victim and road tolling (5795–5815 MHz) as victim.

Also RLAN/SRDs may be considered as victims if the concerned stakeholders wish to study also this scenario.

The analysis of these investigations should indicate whether there are potential challenges with these scenarios.

The analysis should also include detailed investigation whether the CSMA spectrum use of RLANs with 25 mW will detect the relative short road toll exchanges at road tolling stations, with the aim to evaluate the nature,likelihood, conditions and real impact of such interference, if any.
